Introducing the Faith Academy of Christian Enrichment

FUMC Allen's Ministry Board has moved to offer an academy style of classes this fall, which expands the current Wednesday night offerings to classes every weeknight,  Monday through Friday and on Sundays. The Faith Academy of Christian Enrichment has embarked on a new journey of providing adult Christian education for the members and visitors of FUMC Allen and our community. The vision of the Faith Academy of Christian Enrichment is to bring us together in a small group, Christian environment where we will be encouraged to develop our understanding of the life of faith. Through various studies and shared experiences, we hope participants can find that place where your faith and life intersect, leading to a richer, more fulfilling Christian life.

This fall we will offer smaller start-up version of the Academy.  The full schedule of classes will commence in January 2008. The Ministry Board also voted to discontinue the Wednesday night meal due to financial and scheduling considerations.

Mission Possible kids is our new Wednesday night program for kids. This eight-week program for children--kindergarten through sixth grade-is designed to teach children the joy of serving Christ by serving others.  Youth activities, chancel choir rehearsal, Holy Communion and other normal Wednesday activities continue as scheduled.

The following is a full listing of academy classes beginning in September 2007:

Disciple II : Into the Word into the World
This 32–week study encourages the participant to hear what God has to say through the Bible. Through study of the scriptures and the practice of the spiritual disciplines, this study emphasizes the constant movement of the life of faith of coming to God and going to God . . .living both in the Word and in the world. This study concentrates on four books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.

This 32-week study examines the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul. The prophets and Paul continually called God’s people back to God to understand who they are as a people created and set apart of God.
This study confronts the same questions that the Prophets and Paul faced:
What are the priorities of your life? And what are the priorities in society?

and Psalms, as well as the New Testament books of John’s gospel, John 1,2,3, James, Jude, and Revelation.
This study seeks to make sense of our experience in this world
and to help us to live with both what is painful and what is hopeful.
