During the first quarter of this year, the Compass Committee led the congregation of FUMC-Allen through the creation of new statements of Purpose, Mission, Vision, and Values collectively called our "BIG PICTURE." In April, we began the process of Salt and Light. Based on Matthew 5: 16-18, we formed 15 Salt and Light Ministry Area workgroups. Each workgroup currently is focused on discovering what God is calling us to do in their particular ministry area to best fulfill Christ's call to be the Salt of the Earth and Light of the World. These workgroups are led by a Leadership Team consisting of:
| • |
A lay facilitator(s) who is(are) not currently working in the ministry area |
| • |
Staff who has responsibilities in that ministry area |
| • |
Current lay leader from the church working in that ministry area |
| • |
A Compass Committee member |
We now have more than 230 active participants in the process in the various Salt and Light workgroups. In May, more than 200 of these participants attended a retreat to begin working on the Visions and Goals for each of these Ministry Areas. Since the retreat, each of these workgroups has revisited and clarified their retreat work to share with you. A compilation of this work is in this document.
NOW WE NEED YOUR INPUT. Please review the linked document and pay particular attention to those Ministry Areas that are most important to you. You will have an opportunity to provide input in four different ways:
| 1. |
Write your comments and suggestions on the enclosed input form. This form can be turned in at the Compass table in the labyrinth area after any worship service on June 24 or July 1 or at any time in the church office. |
| 2. |
Respond from the web site, email . |
| 3. |
Join one of our Salt and Light workgroups to continue our work over the summer. |
| 4. |
Attend one of our three face-to-face Congregational Input sessions: |
| - Thursday, June 21 Gym 7:00-9:00 (all workgroups individually represented) |
| - Sunday, June 24 Upper Room Chapel 8:30, 9:45, 11:00 Salt and Light panel |
| - Wednesday, June 27 Gym 7:00-9:00 (all workgroups individually represented) |
During July and the first half of August, these workgroups will continue to meet to incorporate your input and refine the Goals into more specific SMART Objectives, taking into account issues such as staff and lay leadership time commitments and space and budget requirements. We will come back to you for more input in late August and September. We will spend the fall working on strategies to achieve these objectives, integrating the goals and objectives into the existing ministries to create a new master plan for the church.
WE WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO ADOPT OR IMPLEMENT THESE GOALS UNTIL WE RECEIVE YOUR INPUT. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO HELP DEFINE THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHURCH AND ITS MINISTRIES!
