"MAXIMIZING INDIVIDUAL
COMPETENCIES IN THE WORKPLACE"
Presentation by Mitch Byers, author of InterviewRX
Mitch Byers has interviewed over 3,000 people face-to-face in his 12 years of recruiting. He is the author of InterviewRX and the recently updated ebook, SalaryNegotiationsRX. He is a frequent speaker to job transition groups and professional associations.
Richard Boyatzis, a professor of organizational behavior, defines job competency as “An underlying characteristic of an employee which results in effective and/or superior performance.”
Companies are motivated to identify habits and behaviors that relate to a superior performer. These habits and behaviors are referred to as “differentiating factors” and are used as benchmarks by which to measure and screen candidates.
The presentation will provide a comprehensive job competency guide.
- You will participate in an exercise to discover your top six job competencies.
- Next, we will go through a step-by-step guide to analyze job descriptions, and then learn how to decipher and prioritize which competencies are required for a job.
- Two interview strategies will be provided to develop career stories to enable you to incorporate the proper job competencies to positively influence the hiring manager.
- Finally, an overview of how to incorporate competencies in building and promoting your career will be discussed.
