The Cameroon team, consisting of Patrick Friday, Wes Magruder, and Carolyn Njuki made the trip to Cameroon in May and worked out details for a conference in July and the reception of the new missionaries Rev. and Mrs. Nkemba and Mbwizu Ndjungu. They are presently listed in Senegal, if you are interested in reading their bios you can go to http://new.gbgm-umc.org/work/missionaries/biographies/index.cfm?action=details&id=400 for Mbwizu’s and http://new.gbgm-umc.org/work/missionaries/biographies/index.cfm?action=details&id=401 for Nkemba’s.
The Ndjungus are scheduled to take up their positions in Cameroon in August.
Wes and Leah Magruder will have a special celebration in their honor at Lovers Lane UMC in Dallas, “WHEELS FOR CAMEROON” – A benefit dinner to raise the money for 2 passenger vans for the mission and to thank the Magruders for their service. Hopefully, featuring Bishop Larry Goodpastor, President-Elect of the Council of Bishops, if it fits his schedule. It will be held October 10, 2008, 7-9 p.m. Tickets: $50 / $400 for a table of 8. Wanda and I plan to be there.
Other partner churches in Alabama-West Florida, North Texas and Southwest Texas are readying for mission trips in ’09 after the Ndjungu’s are settled in, and plans are continuing for a Mission Partner Consultation next Spring in South Carolina. We will be reporting more news as it becomes available, and anything your congregation is doing for Cameroon we will be glad to pass it along and any pictures you can share we will post on the website. Patrick Friday will be returning to Cameroon July 10, if there is information you would like to have in regards to your Cameroon partner church or project, please email me and I will put together a list for Patrick, so we can get the information flow started up again. Once the new missionaries are in place, we are looking for a great new year for Cameroon Mission Partner churches. All the best, George and Wanda Holcombe
