At the beginning of the Season of Lent, we reflect on our individual lives and how we can repent of our sins and shortcomings before our loving judge Jesus Christ.
Tonight, Rev. Abe Smith brings us the word with a sermon titled "Out of the Ashes" based on scripture found in Psalm 51: 1-12. He'll lead the congregation during a time when we impose ashes on our foreheads in the shape of a cross as a reminder of our time together. (Learn more here about why the United Methodists impose ashes on Ash Wednesday)
Everyone will have the opportunity for silent prayer either in the pews and at the altar rail.
Resonate, our Chancel Choir, and other instrumentalists provides us with music in this service that enables self-reflection. We have chosen music from a worshipping community in the south of France known as Taizé (pronounced tuh-zay). The worshippers at Taizé employ vocal music easy to learn and repetitive in nature with instruments and vocal solos intermingling. The congregation is invited to sing and may also simply listen as a background while praying.
The Chancel Choir will sing “Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God” the text from Psalm 51 written by King David.
You will find it a blessing and a meaningful beginning to your Lenten observance.
