Senior Adults

Senior Adult Ministry at FUMC serves the special needs of the member who is nearing retirement or already retired through a variety of activities, ranging from monthly luncheons, special Sunday school classes, and game nights.

Out to Lunch Bunch is for singles and couples of all ages, especially those who are young at heart. This group meets for lunch at 11:30am on the fourth Saturday of each month. Contact Shirley Smith 214.547.1597 or Von Dean Barnes 972.727.3802.

The EXtra Years of Zest (XYZs) meet every month for food, fellowship, support, and entertainment. This group is for senior adults nearing retirement or already retired. Luncheons are the third Thursday of each month from 12:00pm-1:30pm. Contact Karen Griffith, 972.727.4375.

Men Talking is a group of retired men who meet over coffee and donuts every  Wednesday at 10:00am, in the parlor, to discuss timely topics, hear an occasional speaker, share life experiences, reflect on wisdom gleaned from their pasts, and discover where God is in their midst. ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) invites all men seeking friendship and support through life's changes to join them for breakfast each week at the breakfast buffet in the Hilton Garden Suites at Highway 75 (Central Expressway) and Bethany Drive at 8:00am. Contact Bob Northington, 972.549.0888.

The Senior Game Night meets every second and fourth Saturdays at 6:30pm in the parlor for fun and Christian fellowship and a variety of games, Mexican train in particular. Contact Bob Blackstone, 962.886.0484.

Sunday School classes meet every week at 9:30am and 11:00am. Our senior adults study in many different classes, but three classes are specifically geared toward the senior adult. The Friendship class, which meets at 9:30am in the parlor, and the Pathfinders class, which meets at 11:00am in the parlor, both use the Adult Bible Study series developed by the United Methodist Church. The Harmony class meets in the Upper Room Chapel at 11:00am.  They study a variety of biblically related topics to help them grow in their Christian faith.
